Suggested Questions: Posters

Following are some questions to think about when considering poster sources:

1. What is the poster, and what can it tell us? What are the limitations of a poster?
2. Who was behind the poster? The company, the advertising company, the artist, etc., and what effect does this have upon the poster?
3. Why was the poster produced and how has this affected what is shown/not shown?
4. Where was the poster shown? (National/Local)
5. When was the poster shown? What does it demonstrate about assumptions/attitudes at the time?

Use as much information as possible from within the poster.
