Joyce Goodman

Professor Goodman is Head of the Research and Innovation Centre. She was appointed as Professor of the History of Education in 2002. She attends and presents at many conferences.

Her research interests are focused particularly upon the History of women's education, and in 2002 she founded the Centre for the History of Women's Education, a virtual centre supported by King Alfred's College. She is interested in:

  • Power and authority for women in education
  • Gender, imperialism, national identities and education
  • Women, education and work
  • Gender and the history of 'special needs' education

She is editor of the History of Education Society Bulletin, and on the editorial board of the History of Education journal. She is on the Committee of the following organisations, the History of Education Society of Great Britain, the Women's History National Network, Steering Committee, and is the Treasurer of the Southern Women's History Network.
