Born in Margate, Kent, Harrison was a Royal Scholar at the RCA, who then designed advertisements for Ralph and Brown. He worked for the Bossfield Studio from 1935 to 1940, where his work included advertisements for Cook's Tours, Southern Railways, Polytechnic Tours and K Shoes. From 1940 to 1946 he served in the RAF, emigrating to the USA in 1948, as he had found it impossible to earn a living the UK because of paper shortages.
