| Clark
was an artist and Works Relations Officer at a Royal
Ordnance Factory working for the Ministry of Supply
who designed 'But is the Machine Turned Off?'. Not a
professional advertising man, he was a bank clerk 'who
found himself drafted into the industry like so many
others with no previous experience of factory work'.
